Cultural Differences

One time, we met up with our Malaysian friend (who classifies himself as a “banana” — yellow (Asian) on the outside, white (Western) on the inside).  Eventually the topic to what we call girls whose bodies are hot, but whose faces are unfortunate.

Butter,” he said. “Everything’s nice… but her face!!!”

“Shrimp,” we said. “In Tagalog, hipon.”

“Shrimp?!?” he exclaimed. “Why?”

“How do you eat a shrimp?” we said. “You eat the body and throw away the head!”

This got our Malaysian friend laughing for a good bit. A little while later, our local Singaporean friend joins us, and our Malaysian friend was excited to tell the story. “How do you eat a shrimp?” he ask our Singaporean friend.

“You eat the whole damn thing lah!” replied our Singaporean friend.
